Strolling along the centuries-old cobblestone streets you will be captivated by the surprising mix of tastefully restored restaurants/cafes intertwined with crowded humble citizens’ apartments as well as abandoned buildings. Learn about the tumultuous past of Panama which influenced world history.

Day 3 : Canal & Travel Day
Panama Canal - Miraflores Locks and Visitor Center
Unavoidable! Up close experience of the Panama Canal where vessels are lifted (or lowered) 54 feet (16.5 m) allowing them to transit between the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. The visitors’ center allows tourists to have a plunging view of the locks in operation. Also includes access to the Museum and the 3D video presentation. Best time to visit is in the morning when many ships are transiting.

Coiba Prison Visit and Nature Exploration
Also called Devil's Island, Coiba was a penal colony until 2004. Mammals like Agoutis, Sloths, Possums, and Howler Monkeys are sure to also cross your path.

Day 6 : Maria Vicente Community Immersion Day
Teach English at the public primary school of a rural village
The school kids are really looking forward to this energetic encounter with the foreigners. Activities created by the teams of participants for each class room and the recreational games played with the entire school are an unforgettable experience for everyone present.
Cultural presentation in the community
Traditional dancing and some food preparation are done in a communal and familial way. Time to get involved and learn hands-on what the daily Panamanian life is all about and taste a piece of their cultural heritage.
Sleepover with the host family
Each GAT Discoverer will be paired with another Discoverer and a Panamanian GAT Ambassador of the same sex to spend one night at one of our hand picked host families. All families are well known by the GAT Team (all are either relatives or close friends of Saul). The families are looking forward with the translating help of the Ambassadors to share their daily lives with the Discoverers.
Night: Sleep in host family's house
Finally the time to connect with the real Panamanians. Show the local kids a great time, get to know an authentic Panamanian family, prepare and share food together, hang out with the rest of the village and sleep in the same conditions.

Day 8 : Green Volcano Village Day
Hiking in El Valley
This crater village is home to a dormant volcano. It is luscious, cool, green, and full of life which makes it the best place for a hike. Follow the rough trail used by the villagers all the way to our barefoot friend's house near the rim of the crater. Be amazed by the remoteness and simplicity of the places where people settle to live in these mountains.
Zip-Lining in El Valley
Safely attached to your harness you can zip from one massive tree to the next. Obviously and adrenaline rush but also a unique perspective to observe the nature from within the canopy. Finish this thrilling experience with a refreshing jump in the waterfall.

The ultimate way to unwind from an active day! Singalong, stories and dancing are memories born in this paradise.
Night: Sleeping in El Palmar Beach
The cooler temperatures of this inhabited volcano crater are perfect for hiking, zip-lining, swimming and/or jumping in the waterfall, and visiting the cute markets for locally grown products and handmade arts and crafts. The day will end on the nearby beach with a bonfire.

Surfing
This is the perfect spot to learn to surf! The waves are constant and not too big to scare you away. Our instructors will get you up to speed on the basic techniques and safety precautions. Then it's time to practice and enjoy!
Stand Up Paddle Boarding
If you are an avid Stand-up paddler or not, we will all have an awesome time with this sport. The warm waters of the Pacific ocean make SUPPING so enjoyable. It's a great workout for your core and helps engage those micro balancing muscles! Once you get the hang of it, you can look around easily into the water and enjoy the beauty that sounds you.

A well deserved day of activities and relaxing on a beautiful beach. This beach is has a cool vibe of surfers and tourists perfect for making new friends.

Day 11 : Embera Village Day
Visit of the Embera Indigenous Village
Less than an hour away from the city limits, our Embera captain will take us down the river for a 45 minute boat ride passing through the rainforest where many birds and animals can be observed. Upon arrival at the village you will experience the warm and exotic Embera greeting. You will welcomed in their traditional dwellings and taught about their history and culture I an interactive way. Lunch will be the traditional fresh fish with plantains and local fruits. In the afternoon you will have time to meet the villagers or play and swim with the children. You can buy handicrafts directly from the artists: intricate woven baskets and masks made from palm fibers or carvings from wood and Tagua nut (Vegetable Ivory). You can get a traditional Jagua tattoo (temporary). Before departure you will witness their sacred dancing and affectionate farewell.

Day 12 : Optional Free Day in Panama City
Optional - Hike Ancon Hill and visit the "Mi Pueblito" exhibition:
This oasis of greenery wedged between the old city and the Canal Zone offers the best views of Panama. On the way up you might observe parrots, hawks, toucans, agoutis, coatis, sloths, opossums, and even deer. The Mi Pueblito (my village) touristic exposition represents 3 types of Panamanian villages on a small scale: the Colonial Style, the Caribbean Style, and the Indigenous Style.
Optional - Explore Panama's cultural diversity following the subway stations:
Get down into the real urban Panama. The popular commercial streets of Santa Ana outside the Cinco de Mayo Station, the banking district plus the night life scene of Uruguay Street near Iglesia del Carmen Station, the young and transient university area of via Argentina, the lower income neighborhoods of the northbound stations.
Optional - Markets and Shopping
Explore Panama City's Markets and malls. From the luxurious experience of the posh Soho and Multi Plaza malls to the crowded streets of Avenida Central via the Fruit and Veg Market and the Seafood Market. Panama's commercial experience is colorful and diverse because it has always been and is still today a merchants' crossroad.

Day 13 : Caribbean Coast - Portobelo and the Congo Culture
Visit Historical Portobelo: Home of the real Pirates of the Caribbean
Beautiful Portobelo is located in a naturally secure bay of the caribbean coast and surounded by lush green hills. This now quiet town as had a tumultuous history of trade and piracy. Visit the remains of the fortifications, the museum, and the famous Black Christ at the San Felipe church.

The day will finish riding the historic Panama Canal train across the isthmus from Colon to Panama City. This railway was one of the main tools for the construction of the canal and is still in use today. Great views of the canal an surrounding jungle. Snack are offered on-board.
